About this deal

I think this one appealed to me a little bit more, guess I’m just more of a ghost fan than aliens, but I feel that each of these works, with their useful glossaries and resources, would be quite appropriate for teens and preteens who are interested in outré subjects. and the illustrations don't really get across the impact of some of the things we're reading about (such as ghost photos etc). The style of this book is very much a mix of historical and factual information on the paranormal (and those who took advantage of people’s gullibility around it), and all the fun pop culture stuff! It definitely brought me back to the old Usborne books of the mysterious, which actually appear in the nice additional reading section.

So as the days slowly start to get darker and because Halloween was just around the corner it seemed the perfect time to read this book. The author, Adam Allsuch Boardman is an illustrator and fan of trivia who has previously written “An Illustrated History of UFO’s”, and “An Illustrated History of Filmmaking”, both of which I’d be interested in having a look at. I had hoped for more real ghost stories that I could share round a campfire, but there wasn’t really a single story that I could share. I guess I just read too many magic books as a kid and am used to the "A good magician never reveals his secrets" stick. It touches many different topics, such as the different types of ghosts within different cultures and their influence on films and literature. I would have loved to read something like this when I was younger and in my first moment of awe and insistence of watching ghost hunting videos and shows and adamant that ghosts and spirits are real. I would have loved to see the graphic novel go a bit or in-depth with some of the writing and details but without it just makes it an excellent starting guide and introduction to ghosts and ghost hunting.

Through the decades, investigators and mediums have dedicated themselves to the task of reaching through the veil and contacting the other side. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. It looks beautiful as a ‘coffee table book’, the illustrations and fun and it’s definitely something for paranormal enthusiasts. There is also a unique guide on the different types of ghost and yes there is more than one type of ghost which was news to me.

An Illustrated History of Ghosts is a cute little book which was a surface and light read about the history of ghosts. I liked the illustrations of this book too, I think they went well with the overall presentation of the book. I love that it mentions positive ghost experiences like the Mexican Day of the Dead festival, ghosts can get a lot of negative press when they're often not violent or even inclined to interact! Although it gives serviceable descriptions of the content, it really just wets your lips before jumping to the next cool thing. I’m also unsure who the intended audience is - the illustrations and the simple writing style would suggest a younger audience but some of the content would probably be over their heads.
