About this deal

One other intriguing detail caught my eye: the junior priest drove around in the rain in a car with a missing windscreen wiper; was this deliberate? At first, the priest stalks the girl, but later it is revealed that he will stop at nothing, including blackmail and murder, just to get close to her.

Whoever selected the settings also deserves an award as the house used for the presbytery was an inspired choice. It could use a good trimming of about twenty minutes but that's far from a complaint considering how steeped in a foreboding shadow and dipped in sadistic atmosphere it is. McGillivray’s script is full of inventive ideas which were obviously meant to shock and stir up controversy. I may have remembered some of the movies more fondly than I should have and I blame this entirely on how much I love Sheila Keith. The story concerns a concerned young girl who goes to revelation at the local church; alas, the sexually-angry priest she acknowledges to becomes fascinated with her. With a whammy of gruesome, giallo-esque violence, firm footed pacing and an ending that shows just how mad Walker can get it's a standout in his filmography. Add into the mix my favourite British scream queen, the uber-sexy Stephanie Beacham , as Penhaligon's flatmate who's herself busy tempting a younger colleague of Meldrums from the path of righteousness and the stage is set for a highly entertaining tale of repressed sexuality and Catholic guilt from the great Pete Walker! Valerie's parents are sitting watch the telly when their daughter walks in, goes upstairs and lobs herself out of the window, hitting the ground with a sickening thud. First the boyfriend is beaten with an incense burner and then buried alive in a grave, then poor unlucky Bob is smothered in his hospital bed, Meldrum found reading him his last rites after doing the dirty deed.

Outwardly a kind-hearted counsellor of troubled youth, Meldrum is in fact a fervent believer in " divine justice" who freely resorts to emotional abuse in his obsessive efforts to redeem those he views as sinners. The jury's still out on House Of Mortal Sin (aka The Confessional), but you can't deny that it's entertaining. House of Mortal Sin (also known as The Confessional and The Confessional Murders) is a 1976 British horror slasher film directed and produced by Pete Walker. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows. She goes to the presbytery and encounters Mrs Meldrum, who knows that her son is mad and begs Vanessa to help. Meldrum arrives, strangles Vanessa, and at Brabazon's urging, murders his mother on the pretext of a mercy killing. A sadistic, wretched, corrupt, homicidal individual who probably couldn’t have been portrayed any better than what Sharp accomplished. The next day, Meldrum invites Jenny over to his presbytery, which he shares with his frail, bed-bound mother and his housekeeper, Miss Brabazon.

Walker fails to bring any sensibility, other than the merely exploitative, to the grotesque material, this must be considered pretty irredeemable stuff, even for a horror film. In THE CONFESSIONAL, that authority figure would be Father Xavier Meldrum (Anthony Sharp), a Catholic priest who tape records all his parishioners' confessions and murders those he considers too permissive. And I haven't even mentioned we get another memorable turn from Walker regular Sheila Keith as Sharp's foreboding, eyepatch-wearing housekeeper Miss Brabazon. Its plot concerns a deranged priest who takes it upon himself to punish his parishioners for their moral transgressions. She quickly leaves, but not before telling Meldrum that her on-off boyfriend Terry recently pressured her into having an abortion. House of Mortal Sin is similar to House of Whipcord, as Walker turns his sights on a priest who takes it upon himself to cleanse people of their sins.

Best known as the home office minister in A Clockwork Orange, he had an extremely distinctive, instantly recognisable look and sound, with a ball-shaped head and massive hook nose, and the plummiest, most clipped English accent imaginable. We slowly learn that the good Father has a sickly mother (Hilda Barry) that he loves very dearly but is being abused by one-eyed caretaker Miss Brabazon (played eerily by Walker regular Shelia Keith), whose reasons for abusing her will be revealed later on. Die Charaktere haben mir in der gesamten Handlung gefallen, da einige schon kommisch drauf sind/oder es werden. This one's got a nice oversized region 2 art insert with lovely art on the other side that can't be seen through the neat black case. After an uncomfortable encounter at the confessional, she is subsequently harassed, intimidated and threatened with extortion.Things come to a boil in the finale, a strange concoction that only Walker and McGillivray could pull off. A lapsed Catholic in real life, Walker uses the film as a comment on organized religion, as extreme and satirical as it may be…” ~ George R. The next morning, Jenny makes her way to Father Meldrum's presbytery, where he lives with with his frail Mother and Miss Brabazon the housekeeper.
