About this deal

Maisie knows the truth about Harry's parentage, and a few people know the truth about Arthur Clifton's death, but no one tells Harry anything. But when the front door closed I stood by the drawing-room window and watched as the car disappeared down the driveway and out of sight. You see, I never would have picked up this book normally, as for me, the plot came across as being a bit samey, and frankly, I thought it was going to be dull. Archer was determined to bore us with these stupid and boring characters going to lengths to prove their worth or whatever !

The plot revolves around the protagonist Harry Clifton, spanning the time between the end of World War I and the beginning of the Second World War. I nearly got myself expelled from my prep school for stealing – heaven knows how he managed to fix that – and after that I let him down by failing to get into Eton. I rather enjoyed being addressed as ‘my lord’ by all and sundry, even if it was only for a few hours. When Detective Sergeant William Warwick is reassigned to the drug squad his first case is to investigate notorious drug lord the Viper. I received this book as a present around three or so years ago, and it has been sitting in my bookcase, possibly gathering a bit of dust, ever since.

The book has the flavour of Follett's Century series and Rutherfurd's multi-generational novels, where the reader must pay attention not only to the story, but also the collection of characters and their nuances. The Clifton Chronicles is Jeffrey Archer s most ambitious work in four decades as an international bestselling author. Despite their different lives, fate is destined to bring them together as they both embark on a ruthless struggle to build a fortune.Jeffrey Archer hits it out of the park with this epic tale of a young boy trying, with the help of his friends and family, to make his life something no less than extraordinary.

But it will be another twenty years before Harry discovers how his father really died, which will only lead him to question who was his father? But despite the occasional punch from an older boy, regular leatherings from the headmaster and the loss of my pocket money, I still couldn’t resist the draw of the docks. This was the first book I read by Jeffrey Archer, but I have every intention of reading many more after this one. At the same time, it looks as though England may go to war with Germany, and Harry must consider what this means for his future. Hugo perhaps, because he was such a cowardly toad but Maisie had a good handle on moral responsibility and lived for her son, so I’m not sure she would have simply stood by.

I was good at making up stories, but it wasn’t long before she discovered that was all they were: stories. It kept retelling the same story but from a different character's perspective, so I had to go back in time to listen to the same story over and over. In "Only Time Will Tell," Harry Clifton believes that he will end up working at the docks like his father, whom he never met, and his uncle. Warwick finds himself and the heart of the cases, but only time will tell if he can catch the killers before it's too late. Ambitious and addictive, Only Time Will Tell is the first novel in international bestseller Jeffrey Archer's the Clifton Chronicles begins the epic tale of Harry Clifton, a working-class boy from the docks of Bristol.Il sait maintenir le suspens de chapitre en chapitre et nous faire trembler de peur et de révolte devant les crimes laissés impunis de certains de ses personnages. Filled with family secrets and stories of the different ways life can take us, this book was the great kick off to what promises to be an exciting series!
