About this deal

also, since we are evaluating this collection in 2023 and 12 years have gone by since the original mgs hd collection on ps3, people have the right to be more critical of this package.

As such, many of the quirks of the original PS1 game are preserved: a base resolution of 320x240, and PS1's signature affine texture warping that causes texture maps to 'wobble' as you move the camera. You also get every variation of the PS1 Metal gear Solid: from the 1998 original, the VR/Special Missions expansion discs for Europe and North America, and the Japan-only Integral release. So much more could have been done — even just on the purely resolution and frame rate end — to make these three classics shine once more. The digital packaging surrounding the three classics doesn't quite feel like the labour of love it should do, but once you sink into the PS1 original, Sons of Liberty, or Snake Eater, it's abundantly clear there's still nothing quite like Metal Gear Solid. For example, you'll find the bonus master books and screenplays built into the game apps themselves, but then the graphic novels are siloed off in the launcher purely for bonus features.

I'm glad to say this blur effect is at least removed for the Raiden section later on though, and in MGS3. The changes to their visuals in the Master Collection are minimal at best, meaning we still get a native 1280x720 presentation on both games for PS5, Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. For starters, it probably no longer even exists so that would mean adding a considerable amount of new code. You can download and play this content on the main PS5 console associated with your account (through the “Console Sharing and Offline Play” setting) and on any other PS5 consoles when you login with your same account. It's a bizarre situation on Series X as well, given the Master Collection produces a worse image than what we already had in the Xbox 360 HD Collection, running in back-compat on Series X.It's likely an incidental benefit of running either game from SSD-equipped modern consoles, but it's a clear plus.

In essence, both of these games are the same as HD Collection versions released in 2011 on Xbox 360 and PS3 of course, and there's no attempt to disguise the fact either. The original 1998 Metal Gear Solid plays via emulation in the Master Collection release, with the same 240p resolution and 30fps cap. This collection includes the classic versions of the games, complete with minimal edits to copyrighted contents. If there's one redeeming feature of the PC release, it's that we have the flexibility to fix some of these problems ourselves.

Those who purchase Volume 1 will also have access to a variety of bonus content including the two regional versions of Metal Gear, the original version of Snake's Revenge, the first and second Digital Graphic Novels in video form, and a digital soundtrack. Konami's Master Collection gets by on the ever-lasting quality of its fallen series, not the means that have brought it back. What we have here is the original Metal Gear Solid presented in all its PS1 glory, coupled with the PS3 HD remasters of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Still, the Master Collection marks the first-ever Trophy list for Metal Gear Solid, and earning a Platinum gong for such a coveted title is an offer most fans won't be able to refuse. Your impression of Anakin, the Jedi and the Force will not be the same as what we oldies had back in the day.Looking at Switch too, it's a shame 30fps is enforced for these PS2 classics with frame-rate drops below this target as well. This features a form of anti-aliasing in parts to reduce moire patterns, yet elements of the image are left untreated with a similar result to the AA-less Switch version. for mgs 1, you can get a FAR better experience simply running the game in an emulator — widscreen, better framerate and resolution included.
