About this deal

The book is full of beautiful, big and bright pictures, drawing the reader’s eye to examine them in more detail. She has read and written poetry for as long as she can remember, and her favourite books include Louis Untermeyer? It is perfect for counting along with your children and the images in the book make it more fun as you scavenger to count each item. My Granny Went to Market: A Round-The-World Counting Rhyme by Stella Blackstone is a rhyming book about a Granny who takes a magic carpet ride around the world.

Perfect for learning how to count, as well as introducing children to a host of bird names, this rhyming text is great for reading aloud. While this book is to help with counting each page is represented by a certain place around the world. I like that some cultural elements are explained- for example, the names of the cats Granny gets in Thailand, Puyin and Puchai, are the Thai words for "little girl" and "little boy". This book is great for learning about other countries and cultures and can be a brilliant starting point for a cross-curricular project.

It reinforces numeracy skills whilst teaching young children about different countries around the world. The writing is just as exciting, rich in rhyming, alliteration, interesting words, and introduces foreign words to children, and gives an insight into the different cultures and objects which represent that country. Although these students may not be able to travel the world at this moment, it shows them about different cultures.

My Granny Went to Market: A Round-the-World Counting Rhyme by Stella Blackstone is a lovely book with beautiful illustrations. An entertaining story, while revealing a captivating illustration on each page of the very finest quality. As it says in the title it is written in rhyme and every place she visits she picks up a certain amount of objects (one more than the previous place) therefore is a counting book also. She lives in southwest England, and enjoys walking and working in her garden as well as doing nothing whenever she has the chance.

A great story of a granny who travelled to different countries around the world, picking up different cultural objects. Product arrived matching the specifications I requested but also matched the photographs and item description. The book is cleverly done as a counting rhyme, tracking granny’s progress around the world and increasing the number of objects bought as she travels. This stylishly illustrated counting book from a Best New Illustrator, opens with a vibrant cockerel crowing to welcome the day and ends with a solitary barn owl flying off the page and slipping into the night.

The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. On each page there are a number of things that need to be found and counted, helping the reader learn how to count in a fun way! There is a lot going on, so someone would be able to play a game of iSpy or different counting activities. Finally, there is also a map at the front and back of the book that shows the path of Granny's travels. Since studying at the Royal College of Art, he has painted in numerous locations for exhibitions, commissions and publications, and has become a tutor at Goldsmiths University.
