About this deal

In large-scale commercial construction, the work of installing and finishing drywall is often split between drywall mechanics, or hangers, who install the wallboard, and tapers (also known as finishers, mud men, or float crew) who finish the joints and cover the fastener heads with drywall compound. For the Area Under Sloped Walls, input the values of the Number of Triangular Spaces, Base of Triangular Space, and Height of Triangular Space to get the value of the Total Area Under Sloped Walls. Three-eighths-inch and 1/4-inch are available as well but are rarely used except on curved wall surfaces or areas where thinner rock is required. If you have a sloped ceiling which you want to drywall, use a ladder to access measuring the ceiling dimensions. Introducing adhesive between the studs and the drywall sheets—a common practice in the building trades—further affects screw placement, reducing the overall quantity needed per sheet of drywall.

Invented in an era where lower and middle-class families were finally able to break into mainstream resources, drywall has been consistently popular ever since. Both the International Residential Code (IRC) and USG, the manufacturer of Sheetrock, note that the recommended maximum field screw spacing for wall drywall is 16 inches. Don’t try to save a couple of bucks by using scraps of drywall when you should be using a full sheet. In its lightest form (lightweight drywall), the weight of a 4′ x 8′ drywall sheet ranges from around 20.

This is a skilled job that sees up to three layers of taping compound being applied to seams and corners to cover all the joints and fasteners. Sulphite does not easily crack or burn, making it an ideal option for the internal material of a wall. An alternative to traditional wood or metal lath was a panel made up of compressed gypsum plaster board that was sometimes grooved or punched with holes to allow wet plaster to key into its surface. Where two or more track segments must be used, the ends can be overlapped; they do not need to be cut to size.

If the remainder is less than 6 inches, plan to trim at least 6 inches from the first row of panels, so you'll have full-width (or nearly full-width) panels in the last row. While the process itself is not terribly complicated, there will be some basic construction techniques involved that require preparation. While 1/4-inch-thick drywall is the lightest, these thin panels can be brittle and hard to work with, and they are flexible enough to reveal most ceiling imperfections once screwed to the ceiling. Water that enters a room from overhead may cause ceiling drywall tape to separate from the ceiling as a result of the grooves immediately behind the tape where the drywall pieces meet becoming saturated.Sound transmission may be slightly reduced using regular 5⁄ 8-inch (16mm) panels (with or without light-gauge resilient metal channels and/or insulation), but it is more effective to use two layers of drywall, sometimes in combination with other factors, or specially designed, sound-resistant drywall.
