About this deal

Whether you use a container and sterilising tablets, a microwave machine or an electric steriliser, most options don't dry the bottles. The way you stack it isn’t the same as you would assemble the bottle, so you must stack it correctly. This Internet site provides information of a general nature and is designed for educational purposes only. The items also come out at their usual temperature so they can be used immediately," explained parent tester Colleen.

A steriliser can be used to kill bacteria found on lots of different baby feeding equipment like baby bottles, teats and breast pump parts. You just fill the bucket with cold water and add a sterilising tablet or capful of liquid and it's good for 24 hours! Once in place, take the assembled top part of the bottle to push the valve firmly in place (as shown in the image). Along with the parts of the bottle, you’ll want to remember to put the tongs in the top compartment too. What we loved about the Milton Solo was that, travel steriliser or not, it’s more adaptable and comes with more useful design features than any other travel model we tested.

With the plastic valve firmly pushed down into the base, you can now proceed to add the water that’s required for the sterilisation. Most of them are cup-shaped microwave sterilisers large enough for one bottle or one breast pump – though you might not always have access to a microwave when away from home so look out for ones that can be used with cold water solution as well. Similar to the Babymoov and Dr Brown's sterilisers, the Tommee Tippee unit uses a HEPA air filter to block dust and dirt in the drying cycle. Most bottles can be cleaned in a dishwasher (top shelf only) however they could be contaminated with other food debris so washing bottles separately in hot soapy water is the best method.

It’s best to use sterile tongs to handle teats afterwards to prevent contamination, and the majority of sterilisers come with a pair – put the tongs in with the cycle and you know they’re OK to use. One MFM user found it “easy to navigate” and liked how the same solution can be used for up to 24 hours, so there’s no need to throw it away after one use.Ultraviolet models are usually more expensive than other types of steriliser, but they don’t use any chemicals, nor do they require descaling, which can be a huge bonus. With the top and base of the bottle assembled, you can proceed to attach them to the main part of the bottle as shown in the image below. It’s good practice to reduce the risk of needless germs from feeding equipment in particular as this can make your baby very poorly, including symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea and oral thrush. It takes 15 minutes for the items to clean (which is longer than all the other sterilisers mentioned here) and utensils can be used straight away.

For microwave or travel models, she washed them in the dishwasher with items covered in pasta sauce to see how they coped and knocked them over to see if they leaked in transit. Although it's small, you can sterilise up to 6 classic bottles at a time (or 4 bottles and accessories such as soothers and teethers) and it takes just 6 minutes to remove harmful germs. The reason for this is that water can collect in the valve, which you’ll want to remove before completing the assembly of the bottle. Do you plan to use it past the bottle-feeding stage for feeding bowls and training cups when weaning?

For microwave and electric steam sterilizers, baby bottles and teats can be sterilized in as little as 5 minutes. We found it intuitive and simple to use – it even comes with a measuring cup so you can be sure you’re adding the right amount of water each time. To do this, you’ll need to measure out 20ml of tap water, which can be measured using the measure on the bottle lid. Some have two tiers, while others are combination sterilisers suitable for both microwave and cold-water sterilising.
